Last night I was being all super-efficient, and made bread, intending to freeze it for shabbat. It came out of the oven looking utterly seductive and gorgeous, and I left it on top of the oven to dry off a bit before freezing it.

Now, for shabbat you only *need* three loaves - two for Friday night, of which you eat one, leaving you two for Saturday lunch, of which you eat one and have one remaining for teatime. Well, last night I made four, thinking we might have guests or something...

...but this morning, there they were, sat on the oven, looking golden and fluffy and tempting, and now there are only three and a half. And I am replete with fluffy new bread and Earl Grey. I suppose it's pushing it a bit to start shabbat on Wednesday.

First, doctor's appointment. Doctor is running two hours behind schedule. Fortunately had a long book.

Then, quest for three things. Ginger biscuits, stem ginger in syrup, and plain chocolate without milk in it.

Well, the plain chocolate - just forget it. Not to be had, unless it be the extremely expensive Belgian import, which seems a little over the top for cooking. All dairy. Forgive me, but why is it necessary to put milk solids in plain chocolate?

Ginger biscuits? Again, just forget it. Over-sugared cartoon biscuits and Oreos aplenty, but no ginger biscuits.

Stem ginger - first, dear Manhattan retailers, stem ginger and root ginger are not the same thing. Second: prepositions are your friends. Ginger in syrup and ginger syrup are not the same thing. Chocolate syrup and maple syrup are not acceptable substitutes for stem ginger.

Grr.
