I was teaching my Chanukah bat mitzvah the Torah service, and since I had a Torah handy, we were practising walking and bowing whilst holding a sefer Torah in one hand and a prayerbook in the other. The fringed wrapper on the Torah caught on the poor kid's earring and wouldn't come off, so she was stood there with a twenty-pound Torah attached to her ear, until W brought the scissors and cut them apart. So we learned an important lesson - stud earrings.
