We were working at Shaarei K'shishim this shabbat, and since it's right by the Botanical Gardens, we went for a walk. The Gardens are jolly pretty, lots of trees and grass and Attractive Nooks and pergolas and suchlike. It's also one of the only pretty settings with greenery and such for miles around.

Well, it being a Saturday in June, there were a lot of weddings in Queens, and it seems that pretty much all of them came to the Gardens to do their photos. When we arrived there were seven or eight stretch limos parked outside the gate, and when we left there were perhaps twelve (how many tickets do you get for double-parking a stretch limo? only one?). All the wedding parties were inside, various combinations of brides, retinues, and different types of photographers all competing for the prettiest spots and trying not to get other wedding parties in the backgrounds of the pictures. One wondered if they ever got mixed up.

There was one where the groom had six attendants in white dinner jackets - they looked hot, although not as hot as the chaps in black dinner jackets. There was a pink meringue bride, as well as quantities of the ordinary white kind. There were some stunningly attractive satin bridesmaids, and some rather bilious green net ones - W wanted to sneak into that picture, because he had a green shirt on and would have blended nicely.

It put me in mind of a car park on a busy shopping day when everyone's circling round and round waiting for a space to open up. I think they should have one of those electronic signs at the gate - "87 Picturesque Locations Full. 15 Picturesque Locations Vacant."
