nice shabbat

Return of the King rocks extremely, even with Hebrew subtitles (at one point "Come on, let's go!" is rendered "Come already!"). We got home about midnight, and, joy of joys, we have a holiday, so we had a Sunday morning lie-in, unprecedented luxury.

On Friday I invented a pareve Atkins quiche, which featured ground hazelnuts and coconut milk, amongst other things, but still resembled a quiche in large measure, which was pleasing. And I made onion challah, which I'm about to toast with cheese for lunch.

like having parents again

Sunday morning W went out early to go to the minyan factory, and then onward to Laura's Brunch. It was sunny at home, so I decided to have a quick nap in the sun - well, a few hours later W came in; apparently he'd been worried sick that I hadn't answered the phone any of the five times he'd called (the cable was out). So it's like being twelve again, in a way. Marriage is a many-splendoured thing.

damned architects

I don't understand who builds a flat, an open-plan flat, a big modern open-plan flat, and in the whole of the main room puts exactly one power point at ground level. Stupid damn architect. There's nowhere to plug the heating in.

On the subject of architecture, they also don't believe in insulating buildings here, which is stupid both in the winter, in terms of heat, and in the summer, in terms of cool. It's presumbaly cheaper to build, but it's very shoddy.

They also didn't believe in putting a valve in the drain, so when you run water down the sink, it pushes water up from the toilet pipe and spits it out of the shower drain. This means a terrible stench at best, and a flood of brown water at worst.

And they don't believe in carpets or curtains.

Only another five months...
