Sunday Rebecca came round - she's in town for James Maisels' wedding - v nice to see her, as ever - and it went like this:

R (looking at kitchen floor): What happened to your floor?
J: We didn't wash it for three weeks, that's what happened.

You know it's bad when even student friends comment...

Deserves an entry of its own really. We thought we were going to meet Paul Turner for supper, but he wasn't where we thought he was going to be, so we must have got something wrong somewhere along the line. We went down Emek Refaim to get to supper, and it was fascinatingly full of stalls and street entertainers and heat-lamps and all kinds of wonderful things. There was a man on stilts dressed like a man riding an elephant, and a rather good mannequin girl, who only moved when the cold got the better of her, and lots and lots of stalls from the various restaurants selling hot yummy food - we had a very, very good doughnut from some Persian restaurant, and some triffic roasted nuts - and trinket stalls, and fire-dancers, and chassidishe bands, all along the street with bright lights.

Its slogan was להאיר את העיר, which is cute.
