Friday there was a nasty letter in the post from the building management company's lawyer, saying that we were too noisy and we were to STOP, CEASE AND DESIST [sic - nothing like making your point clearly, is there?] from all noise-making activities. It seemed overly heavy-handed - I mean, they could have made an informal complaint to us before making the official one to the management, no? - but since they announced their intention of sending an inspector round next week to make sure we have carpets, carpets we had to go and buy. So that was today.

Actually it was relatively painless - we went to National Wholesale Liquidators, which piles stuff high and sells it cheap, so we were able to pick up carpeting for the whole apartment for rather less than $300. It's no Axminster, but it's reasonably tasteful. Several hours of hefting and shoving later, we have a carpeted apartment.

What with that and teaching, I was only able to give two hours to the Megillah today. I got 5/6 of a column done in those two hours, so I could have finished it today had we not had to spend today buying rugs.
