bloody american embassy
Travel warning from the American Consulate: "Don't go into East Jerusalem. It's not safe. Cars get shot at. Don't go there" (paraphrasing slightly).
Where's the consulate?
In East Jerusalem.
Can you apply for a visa by post?
No.
Plus, the application fee is $130; there is a further "processing fee" of $355. They don't accept cheques or plastic, and you have to bring exact change. Hello? Do I want to be carrying five hundred dollars in cash around in East Jerusalem? The same travel warning advises against carrying large amounts of cash on one's person.
Oh, and just as an additional insult, they want you to bring it in local currency - but *they* set the exchange rate. Dollars to shekels right now is 4.39. Their rate is 4.5. Okay, it's not *that* much, but it's RUDE.
