Presumably the cost of the pen for the Bank of England was largely the cost of the time in cutting it, the feather itself being a small part. Otherwise surely it'd have been more worthwhile for them to employ a number of people dedicated to resharpening (faster at cutting and/or paid less than the staff doing the writing)?
