You can also see gold letters in some of the British Library's collections, they put them on show now and again. Not Jewish books, goyish ones, but hey. The goyim also had the interesting habit of dyeing their klaf, for their most expensive books, with argaman or tola'at sheni, and then writing on it with gold letters.
