raising up

Today I have had Yeast Problems.

At home, I can buy a packet of yeast, it's good for a kilo of flour, and when I put it in water, it turns into froth.

Here, I buy a packet of yeast, expecting it to behave more or less like other yeast - on being put into water, half the contents sank to the bottom, but half stayed on top, and resembled chaff more closely than yeast. The packet swore blind that it didn't have any cereal or other bulkers in it, but I have my suspicions. Then, it didn't do anything at all to a kilo of flour. Indeed, it recommended *four* packets per kilo (after converting to metric).

This is perplexing, not to say annoying, and the bread is exceedingly dense, and will not be edible until made into chocolate pudding later in the week.
