I am recovered, mostly thanks to spending three days straight in bed sleeping and reading. There was a chunk of Thursday where I really didn't feel that I could handle anything with a plot, and certainly not anything inthe least academic, so I read Mrs Beeton's Household Management instead. The link takes you to the whole book online! but I have a hard copy, which is better for reading in bed anyway. It's not exactly food porn, since it is the embodiment of Good Plain Cooking, but there's something fascinating about it.

And just in case you needed a further recommendation, she gives a summary of how you should set about equipping your kitchen, and puts a tea-kettle right at the top of the list - proof positive that she knows what she's talking about.
