The Hebrew alphabet may be only twenty-two letters, but my goodness it's long when you're doing each letter as a project in illumination. I've done ten letters - that's twelve to go, chaps! - and they look freaking amazing, though I says it meself, and I feel like I've been at it for weeks. Zayin on its own was about three days' work. I'll post pictorial evidence once I've done enough productive stuff with my day to justify fiddling about with the camera. Today I'm doing a bat mitzvah piece - first two aliyot of Vayigash, which should turn out lovely.

Alum: Where does one buy it? More importantly, how do Americans pronounce it?

It's supposed to be good for hardening quills, which is something I jolly well need at the moment given how rubbish mine are being - they last about two lines before going all wet and floppy, and they go blunt much too fast.
