(no subject)

Now the painters are due and we can't live in our house bc everywhere will be full of painters and other artisans. Also there is no phone still because one of the animals ate the main cord and the electrician isn't coming until the painters have gone.

Our landlady has a house which has been rented for her by her insurance company following a lightning strike on her house, but she does not want to use the rented house and prefers to camp in her garden while still possible, so she is lending us the house. Which is nice, but it does bring us up to ten residences this year, and I'd really like to stop hoofing about. W is seething mad about the delay, and dealing with that adds an extra dimension of stress.

a day of acquiring things

We scored furniture today. W's mum has an acquaintance who likes W, whose sister is going into a home, and her apartment was up for harvesting, so we have scored some gorgeous bookcases, a dining room set, a bunch of nice folding chairs, the old kind that are wood with padded seats but still fold down really small, and a wobbly thing that the plants are going to live on until I find them a real home.

We also picked up the miscellaneous Judaica. Now we have a couple of bashed-up siddurim (dunno why, W likes them), an extra set of tefillin (yay!), and a toy sefer Torah, but it's not your usual toy sefer Torah, it's in a Sephardi-type can, which is just cool cos no-one has one of those.

And I found new shoes, which is an unusual occurrence, and deserving of celebration.

So on the whole, a pleasing day.
