Still, Eng has both guile and wile. I'd never thought of them being cognates before. Wales/pays de Galles; a warren/une garenne. Also Fr guise/ Eng wise in the sense of way, fashion, eg Il le fait à sa guise; he was in no wise abashed. And guerre/war but I covered that in guerrilla/warrior.
